That Ancient Ceremony

Gardening is not a rational act. What matters is the immersion of the hands in the earth, that ancient ceremony of which the Pope kissing the tarmac is merely a pallid vestigial remnant.
- Margaret Atwood

Today we lived our homage to Ms Atwood. We lived it in the rain. With two pairs of socks beneath our gum boots. We lived it in the rain as we intimately weeded the Food Forest floor, alongside magpies foraging for worms.

We lived it in the rain with our garden forks as we removed rocks and broken bricks and small tiles. And then we lived it with our shovels in hand as we mixed into the earth topsoil, compost and dynamic lifter, readying it for the trees that arrive tomorrow.

  1. Hi AAF.

Lily & I were wondering what you are lying on in the photo on the top of your page. My guess is that you are on top of the table at the Tipperary Springs picnic site. Is this correct?

Lily is standing beside me as I type in her striped paddle pop pyjamas that make her look rather tall.

    Yesterday it was Mindy's birthday.

She is 5 yo or 35 in dog years..that makes her older than Lily but younger than me. If she lives to 2013 she will be the oldest in the family. Not bad for a small poodle!

This morning is was -2degrees here in Hepburn Springs.

Hoping todays plantings went well & we look forward to having a squizz at your blog-site tomorrow......

Lily says HI HOE to Zephyr.

    We miss you all.
